Irish charities Bóthar and Pieta House were recently presented with cheques from St. Mary’s N.S. following the success of their Christmas fundraising initiatives. On 21st December St. Mary’s N.S. held a Christmas Jumper Day, the proceeds of which went to Bóthar. Every child made a small donation in return for wearing their Christmas jumpers. On 2nd February 3rd class presented Deirdre Mullins of Bóthar with the cheque of €660. The money raised was used to buy three hives of honeybees, an in-kid dairy goat, a dairy heifer and a dairy camel. These animals will give struggling families in the developing world the opportunity to improve their circumstances.
The St. Mary’s school choir also went carol singing in Golden Island to get everyone in the mood for Christmas and to raise funds for Pieta House. A whopping €1,500 was raised. The children would like to thank everyone for their generous support.
